Second Quarter

As we are finishing parent teacher conferences and second quarter is under way, I would like to challenge students to read non-fiction books this quarter. Non-fiction are tougher to read, because of the amountof information that is detailed in the book. Reading non-fiction though will help to make students better readers. The content is generally more thought provoking than fiction. If anyone has any good non-fiction book ideas that they would like to share, please email me at kirbyj@chrisman.k12.il.us.

Updates

As the school year has been under way for a few weeks and we are moving forward to conquer new things, many changes have and are coming to the library. I have taken over the position of District Media Specialist, I am trying to make a few changes. Slowly I hope for students to begin to notice the changes. We are trying to up grade to new technology measures that the students can use daily. Last year the library was able to purchase and IPAD with donations that were granted to us. The IPAD is available for students to use now. One of my goals for the year is to update our non-fiction section. as many of the state testing modules use non-fiction for testing. Soon the My Media Mall sight will be accessable to students to download e-books free of charge. Please check back weekly for any more information and updates.

Library News :)

The library system is in the process of changing to Polaris. All hopes are that the change will be completed by April 8. All library materials need to be turned in by April 30 for Seniors and May 3 for all other students. All interlibrary loan materials will need to be turned in by May 1 in order for us to return them to their home library in time. The library will be closing on the 3rd of May for the year. All materials that are not returned by that day will need to have prior approval from the library. If you have any questions, please just ask!! Thank you to everyone who support our Scholastic Book Fair!!! We were able to obtain several new books for the library!!!!

As many people have heard the library system is going to be undergoing some changes in the next few weeks. Any materials requested by students should be completed by March 8. Any materials that are not delivered by the 15th of March will likely be deleted by the main library office in Champaign. Once the change over is complete in early April, students can once again order materials, but they must remember that the library will be closing in early May for the school year. The new program (polaris) that we will be switching to will be more of a region type system with possible more access to materials. Students need to also remember that the materials need to be returned by the due date or renew the materials to avoid fines. Fines must be paid by the end of the year for seniors, who are working on research papers. All others students need to get their materials taken care of before May 10th. This includes lost books and fines that have accrued throughout the year.
